The idea behind Data Trap, was to make it look fun and innocent, in order to bring a friendlier approach to talking about data, which can normally be a very dry and stiff topic to discuss and educate about. But the idea also needed to convey a level of vulnerability, to allow the viewer to realize the danger that your data can be in. That is why a mouse character was chosen, in order to communicate an innocent creature unknowingly falling into a trap.
Storyboard Sequence 1
The mouse, representing a data file, gets thrown into the trash, and moved into the section of the hard drive that holds all deleted data.
Storyboard Sequence 2
The mouse falls into the hard drive, where he meets a community of other deleted data, showing that they’re all stored and located in one location.
Storyboard Sequence 3
The Mouse is shown the kind of important data that gets tossed away, and then it’s revealed that this data community that was originally viewed as a safe haven, can turn into a data trap, due to hackers and outside threats.
Storyboard Sequence 4
While the mouse is trying to escape from the hackers, anti-virus software in the form of security bots rescue the mouse, and then the user is finally warned at the end, that there always comes a risk with deleting data, and to take the careful measures to ensure that your data is not compromised.
Style Frames were designed beforehand, in order to visualize the flow of the story and script. Each frame was also specifically layered, to be immediately ready for animation within After Effects.
Before the design of the style frames, initial sketches were drawn, in order to have a visual framework for the design of each style frame.

Exaggerated action, facial expressions, and perspectives, were the main focus, in order to highlight the “extreme” aspect of the sports camp, and to capture its insanity.
During the sketching phase, the main focus was to capture the energy from the specific action that each style frame was trying to convey, by using exaggerated perspectives, to amplify the action poses of each character.

Kinetic Typography transition scenes were made, to highlight key points within the script, and as a way to transition into different topics within the script.
The motion design brand used overlapping shapes, to fit Calendly's brand, of successfully aligning weekly work schedules, without conflict.
Calendly provided their UI Figma files, and the motion design team converted the UI into After Effects, using 2.5D and motion, to walk through important Calendly features.
Live footage was shot, with actors, who acted out the frustration of managing a busy work schedule. My role, was to animate the footage in After Effects, to add camera movements, motion design, typography, and UI Designs, within the live footage.

Animated introductions were made, to visually represent specific consulting themes within the series. Abstract shapes were used to represent the building blocks nature of a successful consulting career.
After Effects templates were made, for title frames, and lower-thirds designs. The templates were created in a way to where the text and designs could easily adapt, based on a master text and design layer.
My process for streamlining an easy-to-edit template in After Effects, was to create a guide layer out of a text layer, and then parent my text animation to that guide layer.
Therefore, if the guide layer text is changed, the text within the template will also automatically be updated.
